The police are given a number of exceptional powers which enables them to do their jobs, but they must hold a reasonable belief that you have committed an offence, so these powers come with conditions. If the police do not comply with these conditions, you may be able to claim compensation.

if claiming compensation is not an option, the NSW Police Force can be called on to conduct an internal investigation of a formal complaint.
